Latest revision as of 02:13, 29 October 2026

The 2000s began with the closing and sale of the Pizza Pit company stores. Several older places moved or changed hands during the decade.

2000
  • January 19: Pizza Pit's seven company stores in Madison close[1].
  • January 28: SB Acquisition, formed by franchisee Carter Smith and Jim Meyer, buys Pizza Pit Ltd. and its franchise division; the stores reopen between January 29 and February 14[2][3].
  • By January: Pizza Extreme has stores at 605 E. Washington Ave., 2936 Fish Hatchery Rd. and 1207 N. Sherman Ave.[4]
  • About March 30: a second Rosati's opens at 6644 Mineral Point Rd., four months after the first at 4933 Commercial Ave.[5]
  • May: Rocky Rococo has seven Madison stores on the license list, including 4556 Monona Dr.; the list also carries Pizzeria Bellini at 401 E. Washington Ave., Maddog's Pub & Pizzeria at 620 University Ave., Urban Pizza Co. and three Pizza Huts[6][7].
  • Rocky Rococo opens Party Pizzeria East near East Towne[8].
  • August: Topper's is first found in Madison, at 1368 Regent St.[9]
  • September: Samara Kalk reports that the State Street Sal's "is no longer in business" (it had become Casa Bianca) and that Glass Nickel will soon open in Verona[10].
  • September 24: David Wilson, owner of Supreme Pizza since 1984, is killed riding his bicycle[11]. The restaurant is sold in November[12].
