Picasso’s Pizza

From Madison Pizza Wiki

Picasso's Pizza was a pizza restaurant at 5266 Williamsburg Way, off the Beltline at Verona Road, from August 2000 to February 2017[1].

History

Chad Leppien opened Picasso's in August 2000 and ran it for 17 years, closing in late February 2017. "The bleak storefront at Picasso's," the State Journal wrote in June 2008, had given many people the impression it was only a takeout and delivery place, until a second restaurant opened in McFarland, at 4706 Farwell St., in the former Angelo's, and "people were giving it raves": the two shared a menu, and while best known for pizza, the wild mushroom strudel and the Friday perch fry drew the reviewer's praise[2]. The McFarland store ran from 2007 (or, by the review's dating, 2008) to 2011[1]; in July 2011 Fat Boys Pizza of Lodi announced a full-service restaurant in "the old Picasso's in McFarland", 4706 Farwell St.[3]

Pizza

  • In 2008 the menu had thin-crust, double dough and Chicago stuffed pizzas, calzones with the sauce on the side and stromboli with it baked inside; the thin-crust Venetian carried spinach, mushrooms, artichokes and black olives under provolone, and pizzas cost $10 to $21[2].
  • The specialty pizzas included the Roman Ruler, which the State Journal photographed at the McFarland store in 2008[1].
