Kid’s Korner Pizza
Kid's Korner Pizza was a take-and-bake pizza shop on the East Side, at 4116 Milwaukee St., in the mid-1980s. It belonged to Kids Korner Fresh Pizza Inc. of Wausau, a franchise chain.
History
The fall 1985 dining guide listed Kid's Korner Pizza at 4116 Milwaukee St., 249-0281: "premium quality pizza that you take home and bake. Also huge submarine sandwiches." It was open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from noon to 9 on Sunday[1]. It was listed again in 1986[2].
Carmen Jones had founded the chain in Wausau. In 1986 the Associated Press reported that she had opened her first store in 1977, at the age of 61, with a $500 loan. She began franchising in 1979, and by 1986 there were more than 30 stores in seven states, most of them franchises[3].
Muriel LaRose reviewed the shop in her "Cheap Eats" column in December 1987: "We make them, you bake them." Its combinations included the Carmen Special[4]. The fall 1987 guide gave the address as 31 S. Stoughton Rd., with the same telephone number ("Heart healthy fresh pizza that you take home to bake. Also foot-long subs")[5].
