It’s Good for You

From Madison Pizza Wiki

It's Good for You is a small wood-fired pizza restaurant at 521 N. Sherman Ave. on the North Side. It opened on February 2, 2023[1]. The owners are Alessandro Monachello and Chris Guglielmo[2].

History

Monachello and Guglielmo had sold pizzas at farmers' markets and other events since 2016[1]. Monachello, from Palermo, Sicily, had cooked at Osteria Papavero for 16 years; Guglielmo is a radiologist. For nearly three years from 2020 they had a stand at the Northside Farmers' Market on Sundays. The restaurant seats 20 inside and 40 with the patio; customers order at the counter[2].

Pizza

  • Neapolitan-style 12-inch pizzas from a wood-fired oven[1], baked in about 90 seconds at 800 to 1,000 degrees[2].
  • Pizzas in 2024 included the spinacina ('nduja, spinach, smoked gouda, goat cheese) and the tricolore (mozzarella, garlic spinach, cherry tomatoes, ricotta, king oyster mushrooms), for $14 to $22[2].
  • The flour and tomatoes come from Italy (crushed San Marzano tomatoes for the sauce), the fior di latte mozzarella from Wisconsin[3][4].
  • Monachello imported the 5,000-pound oven from Naples. A new trio of specialty pizzas rotates in every three weeks[4].

Trivia

  • The name comes from the first English phrase Monachello learned after moving from Sicily, "it's good for you", which he applied to everything[3].
  • The blue-tiled oven is labeled "THE MICROWAVE"[2].
  • The partners nearly named the business "Mio Fratello"[2]. In July 2021 they announced it under that name ("my brother"), at 521 N. Sherman Ave., to open by April 2022[5].
