Started at Garcia's Pizza in a Pan in Champaign, chose Madison over East Lansing for the first store, and almost called it "The Pizza Factory." The chain peaked at over 120 restaurants before the 1988 brand-rights sale; at his death there were seven Madison-area and three La Crosse stores.
