651 State Street

From Madison Pizza Wiki

651 State St., at State and Lake streets, was the second Rocky Rococo.

Timeline

  • By 1950 to before 1975: the Italian Village, run by Matt Lombardino and from about 1952 by his nephew Joseph Troia; it advertised pizza from 1951[1][2][3].
  • 1975: Rocky Rococo. It applied for a license in July[4], which was recommended in September[5]. The restaurant opened that summer[6].
  • July 31, 1998: Rocky Rococo closed after 23 years. Its windows were papered over with a sign announcing a new campus location at 1301 Regent St., to open in September. Roger Brown said delivery had become a bigger part of downtown business, and the State Street spot had parking and delivery problems[7].
  • September 2004: Moe's Southwest Grill planned to open "in the space that was once Rocky Rococo's"[8].
  • By May 2006 to about June 2007: Fudds[9][10].
  • By May 2008: Madhatter, a bar[11].
