Two Johnson Street restaurants ... have shut their doors: Taco Heaven ... and Supreme Pizza
In 1989: 25 toppings, most of them vegetarian, whole-wheat crust; "the brain-child of a transplanted New Jerseyan who noticed that vegetarians don't have a [parlor] to call home". In 2010: all-you-can-eat spaghetti, toppings such as cactus.
In 2010: all-you-can-eat spaghetti at $5.75, started by Dave Pelow on Thursdays and then daily; toppings included bratwurst, giardiniera, soysage, sauerkraut and cactus. Customers paid after they ate.
Kalk (Nov. 2001): former cab driver Dave Pelow, who had worked at Kosta's on State Street, reopened Supreme 'with $7 in the till', running it alone with one part-time helper and no delivery yet; grand opening planned a month later. In Aug. 2000 a coffee shop was planned next door at 908 E. Johnson St.
