In 1960 the first businesses with "pizzeria" or "pizza house" in their names appeared in the Madison papers: Philadora Pizzeria on South Park Street and Pizza King on State Street, alongside Carlo’s carry-out pizza. The 1960s also saw the start of several of Madison's longest-lived pizza places: Buck’s Pizza, The Pizza Oven and, at the end of the decade, Pizza Pit. Shakey's and Gargano's opened in 1964, and the national chain Pizza Hut arrived in 1968.
