Clyde's Pies is a Madison pizza business born in the COVID-19 pandemic. Its founder, Kwame "Clyde" Latimer, lost his job at a local restaurant in March 2020 because of the pandemic[1].

History

Latimer taught himself to bake bread, and then pizza, from YouTube videos. A pizza he shared with friends led to 40 orders the next day; his first delivery boxes were cut from leftover U-Haul boxes. He paused early on to get his food licenses in order. In the summer of 2021 he held pop-ups at FEED Kitchens on the North Side during Black Restaurant Week, and he hoped to sell in groceries and open a storefront[1].

Pizza

  • Cheese, sausage or veggie pizzas ($10 for 12 inches, $15 for 14), and supreme or buffalo chicken ($15 and $25), ordered by text[1].

Trivia

  • The name "Clyde" was his brothers' nickname for him[1].
