"No phone number." Monday nights in 2011: a 10-inch wood-fired pizza and a pitcher of beer for $16; five house pies including the Nattspil Sausage. Co-owner Prentice Berge often got up at 2 a.m. to make the dough.
'Opened last March' (Oct. 2004) by Prentice and Christopher Berge of the Weary Traveler, Restaurant Magnus and Blue Marlin; no sign; a large stone oven as the centrepiece, 15 tables with tree-stump stools, DJs nightly after 10, kitchen open to 1 a.m., no credit cards or phone. Three pizzas, from $6.50 for the smoked tomato with wilted spinach and arugula.

Previewed on Mar. 9, 2004 as 'Nattspil' while Chris Berge and a group of artists were still renovating the former Little Village Café / Duniya space; open 'about a month' before May 6, 2004 with no sign, no phone and cash only; 4:30 p.m. to bar time; 'primarily bar' with a brick oven, a DJ booth and pizzas at about $7.
Spelling: the name (Norwegian 'night play') appeared both as 'Nattspil' (WSJ preview Mar. 2004, 2004 listings, Daily Cardinal, the Facebook page and nattspil.com) and as 'Natt Spil' (WSJ and CT features 2004–2020, the stone above the oven); the corporation is Natt Spiel, Inc. The owners said having more than one spelling 'fits perfectly with what this place is all about'.
