took over the ownership of Pizzeria Uno on Gorham Street several years ago
Taggers acid-etched its front window (Dec. 2000, owner Tom Beach); the 2001 mid-State Street parking ramp was planned for the lot 'next to Pizzeria Uno'; by April 2004 the building was owned by Urban Land Interests and considered for the garage project.

In 1990 the downtown Uno advertised itself as 'Voted Madison's Best Pizza Restaurant', ran a 'Camp Uno' summer promotion and sold $5 personal deep-dish box suppers at Concerts on the Square (a State Journal reviewer found the pizza 'doughy and unexciting').

Two three-star reviews in May 1992 (Margaret Collins, Jay Rath) praised the Numero Uno and found the new pasta dishes ordinary; the 'Plizzetta' thin-crust line launched in June 1992 got one star from Rath in August ('like Bisquick from a box'); both stores delivered by 1992.

In Sept. 1995 owner Tom Beach weighed in on the Downtown parking-ramp debate; that Christmas Uno sold gift certificates at 20% off and ran a 'Two Can Dine for $12.99' wings-salads-deep-dish coupon.
Urban Land Interests counted 'the Pizzeria Uno complex in 1984-85' among its downtown developments (1996 profile).
Listed in the state's September 1996 unclaimed-property notice.
The building at 222 W. Gorham was a 1984–85 Urban Land Interests project ($1.2 million; Pizzeria Uno and Britches Great Outdoors). In 1997 Uno sold deep-dish box suppers ($5–6) at Concerts on the Square and hosted holiday choirs; the Madison Maennerchor sang there Dec. 6 and the Temple Beth El Youth Choir Dec. 14.
Opened in spring 1985 (later than the November 1984 target) in a new building just off State Street, one of about 30 Unos; Campbell found the deep dish identical to Chicago's — 'Chicago's Famous' individual $3.50, regular $5.75, Mexican and steak-and-cheese versions, $2.95 Express lunch, frozen and par-baked pizzas to go; chrome, black-and-white tile; 11 a.m.–1 a.m.
1985 guide: 'Deep dish pizza, sandwiches, salads, full bar. Five-minute express lunch'; 11 a.m.–midnight daily, to 1 a.m. Fri–Sat.
Stockinger (June 1985): 'open since mid-March'; dark green and white tile, dark wood and '$10,000 worth of brass'; deep-dish 'Uno Special' $12.95; express lunch $2.95; no phone reservations; manager Todd Stern.
Fall 1987 guide: 'A festive, lively atmosphere featuring Chicago deep-dish pizza'; express lunches; delivery to limited areas; full bar.
A Fall 1986 ad: 'Uno means number one for deep dish pizza & fun ... Voted Madison's Best 1986'; free delivery in selected areas. The guide: 'full bar in 1920's atmosphere'; open until 2 a.m. Fri–Sat.
Gruber (March 1985): Uno's pie is 'a pie shell, lined with provolone cheese and filled with various ingredients', 6-, 8- and 12-inch; she found the crust scorched and only an inch deep; the Ike's Salad honored Ike Sewell, credited on the menu with inventing deep-dish pizza in 1943.
