A 2019 madison.com photo caption says Matthew Lombardino opened the Italian Village in 1947; the earliest contemporary evidence found so far is February 1950.
Troia's Steak House was already advertising, air-conditioned, in September 1956.
Troia's Steak House next door at 661 State St. was open by December 31, 1954, when Edwin Stein photographed its sign and grill.
Two storefronts: Troia's Steak House (661 State) was a separate restaurant next door, not a name for the Italian Village (651 State). Troia sold the Italian Village in 1962, while the steak house kept advertising at 661 State in 1964.
