Jeff & Jim’s Pizza was a delivery pizzeria on the second floor of 449 State St. It opened in October 2006 as the first Madison store of a small Wisconsin chain. The chain already had five stores: one in Menomonie, one in La Crosse and two in Eau Claire[1].

History

In early October 2006 the store advertised in the Badger Herald for drivers, pizza cooks, waitstaff and shift leaders, asking applicants to apply in person at 449 State St.[2][3]

On November 7, 2006, after the store had been open about two weeks, the Herald profiled it[1]:

  • Co-owner Jeff Uetz, a former UW–Madison student, said he wanted to tap the late-night food market on State Street.
  • The store was mainly a delivery business, with dine-in and carryout, and its menu ran "from calzones to salads."
  • It sold pizza by the box, not by the slice, because the slice market was already taken by places like Ian's Pizza and Pizza Di Roma. Even so, Uetz said he did not think of other pizza places as competition: "everyone's doing pizza, but everyone's doing it a little different."
  • Being up a flight of stairs was a disadvantage for walk-in trade, Uetz said.
  • Ald. Mike Verveer told the paper that more and more State Street restaurants, especially pizza places, were staying open until 3 a.m.

In February 2007 it advertised for an assistant manager willing to work nights[4]. It was still open in mid-April 2007: on April 13, employees of Jeff and Jim's Pizza on State Street noticed smoke from a nearby Gilman Street restaurant and reported the fire[5]. When it closed has not been found.

The same address later appears in a directory as a Gumby's Pizza delivery hotline[6].
