Three Madison Unos from May 2002: Downtown (State & Gorham, 255-7722), West (7601 Mineral Point Rd., 833-7200) and East (Crossroads Dr. at High Crossing Blvd., 244-3266, 'now open' May 27, 2002, '59 years' after Chicago). Uno sponsored the Children's Museum's 2002 pizza exhibit, sold deep dish at Concerts on the Square (2001) and won Taste of Madison 2000 with its cappuccino cake.
Voted Madison's best restaurant for pizza by Isthmus readers every year from 1988 to 1992; in 1993 Martha and Tom Beach's restaurants gave $5 'UNO-Teers' certificates to volunteers in 16 elementary schools.
Taste of Madison 1995: Spinoccoli pizza slices at $2. Dec. 27, 1995 was 'Pizzeria Uno's Night' at a UW women's basketball game.
By October 1996 the Madison ads used the chain's new 'UNO Chicago Bar & Grill, est. 1943' logo, with pastas ($8.99) and a grilled meatloaf 'favorite' ($7.89) beside the pizza; vegetable pizza was $6.29 individual, $13.29 large.
Second in the 1997 Readers' Choice pizza poll, behind Pizza Hut and ahead of Pizza Extreme, Rocky Rococo's and Paisan's.
February 1997: the FTC made the chain drop 'low fat' claims for its Thinzetta thin-crust line (up to 36 grams of fat a serving). The Madison company's office was at 105 S. Butler St. in 1997.
