6016 Monona Dr., at the corner of Femrite Drive in Monona, was the home of The Pizza Oven for 40 years.

Timeline

  • March 1964: "The Pizza Hut" opened, for pickup only[1]. It was not part of the Pizza Hut chain.
  • September 29, 1966: renamed "Pizza-Oven", "under same management"[2].
  • By 1982: inside seating[3]. The shop had begun in one corner of a building of three stores; the owners later bought the building and made the other two stores the dining room[4].
  • 1999: the City of Monona decided to redevelop the corner[4].
  • April 30, 2004: The Pizza Oven closed here. Two condominium buildings and a retail building were planned for the site[4].
