Advertised in Oct. 1999 as Mad Dogs Sports Bar & Pizzeria, 'one block from the Kohl Center', with 12 TVs and more than 100 beers; the pizza was Falbo Bros. (free slice with a Mad Mug on Thursdays).
Opened in 1995: University Sports, Inc. (agent 'John Okonek') applied for the license in May and the council granted the beer license May 16, 1995; by Sept. 21 the State Journal called Mad Dogs 'a new sports bar and pizzeria' next to Bullwinkle's, a Badger fan magnet opening at 10 a.m. on football Saturdays, with 14 taps and more than 60 bottled beers.
CLEANUP: the same business is also Q631 ('Mad Dogs Pizzeria & Sports Pub', from the 2000 Chicago-style list); merge into this item.
Its own 1996 advertisement: 'Mad Dog's Sports Pub & Pizzeria — full food menu by Falbo Bro's Pizza! Over 60 types of beer', open daily from 4 p.m., with darts, pool, NTN trivia and 12 TVs. The 1996 license (beer only) was renewed as Mad Dog's Pub & Pizzeria.
Listed in Oct. 2000 as Mad Dogs Pizzeria & Sports Pub, 620 University Ave. (251-0943), open Tue–Sat evenings to 2–2:30 a.m., under $10; a police brief of Apr. 22, 2000 called the same address Teenie's. Probably the same business as Maddog's Pub & Pizzeria (2001 license list) — the two brand items should be merged.
Licensed to University Sports (Jon Okonek) from at least 1997; in the Aug. 1997 bar guide with half-price Ex-Light taps at happy hour.
