Pizza Hut of Madison, Inc., is expected to open its first restaurant at 2405 S. Park St. around Jan. 15
The chain's first restaurant in Madison: built for an estimated $75,000, 75 seats, parking for 40 cars.
In Sept. 1973 Pizza Hut had three Madison restaurants — 2405 S. Park St. near the Beltline, 4709 Verona Rd. next to Schwoegler's, and 811 Fern Dr. at Hilldale — with a free half-gallon pitcher of beer or soft drink with every large pizza on Saturday nights.
State Street Gourmet, Oct. 1972: the Monday smorgasbord on Park Street — 'all the pizza I wanted for $1.60', with salad, packed until it ended at 7; the building 'looks so like a squat-windowed fort that at first we couldn't find the door'; thin crust like matzoh, raw-tasting sauce, salad dressings better than the pizza.
