119 W. Mifflin St., a block off the Capitol Square, was the first home of Pavlov's Pizza. It was one of five storefronts in a 1930s building faced in white terra cotta[1].

Timeline

  • Late April 1991: Pagliai's Pizza opened[2].
  • By July 1994: renamed Pavlov's Pizza, under the same owner[3].
  • 1998: the owner of the building, Don Hovde, planned a high-rise at West Mifflin and Fairchild streets, and his tenants lost their leases. Hidden Treasures Resale Shop closed in February, Yan's Soupcon moved in June and Out to Lunch in July. In October Pavlov's was the only tenant still operating[1].
  • March 28, 1999: Pavlov's closed here[4] and moved to 1511 Williamson St.

Trivia

  • The Silver Dollar tavern next door, at 117 W. Mifflin St., was not Hovde's and its owners had "no intention of going"[1].
