Chicago stuffed-style pizza has been available in Madison for decades. It is not as widely available or commonplace as it is in Chicago, and aside from pizzerias originating from Chicago (e.g. Uno's), it's not typically the main style the restaurant is known for. Even then, it's important to distinguish stuffed pizza from the Chicago deep dish or pan styles, because the terms are often used interchangeably (especially outside Chicago).

  • 1991: Pizza Extreme opened with stuffed pizzas on the menu, from a 9-inch cheese to the 11-inch "Extreme Pizza". "We kind of think that the stuffed pizza is satisfying to people who want a lot of food", its co-founder said[4]. One of the founders had worked at Edwardo's.
  • 1998: Pavlov's Pizza had a "Stuffed Chicago Style pizza"[5].

  • 2019: Giordano's, a stuffed-pizza chain from Chicago, was "actively looking for a site" in Madison[3]. A year later it was no longer "coming soon"[1].
