Echo Tap & Grill
Echo Tap & Grill, previously/also known as Echo Tap and Echo Tavern is a tavern operating since 1941. The name comes from the sound of passing train whistles[1].
History
- 1941: the Echo opens[1].
- September 2011: an outdoor patio and a new menu with specialty pizzas[1].
- 2012: co-owned by Pat Rynes and Susan Bulgrim. On Badger football days a free shuttle bus runs between the bar and Camp Randall[1].
- October 2026: still open, with lunch Friday to Sunday and carry-out orders by phone[2].
Pizza
Pizza has probably not been on the menu for its entire history, but they offer several crusts ("Crispy Thin", "New York Pan", and "Cauliflower"), and many toppings.
In 2012 the menu had build-your-own pizzas from $10.50, with less usual toppings such as ricotta, chicken tenders and green olives, and 11 specialty pizzas from $12.50 to $18. The standard crust was thick, "halfway to deep dish", and a thin crust was also offered. The Capital Times reviewer tried the Tuscan Chicken, a garlic-sauce pizza with ricotta, mozzarella, sundried tomatoes and grilled chicken, and the thin-crust Supreme Clientele[1].
Location
- 554 W Main St. (at corner of Bedford & Main): 1941 to now[1][2].
