Bob Sieger owned the building by April 2000, when he and Tom Brunner bought the Copper Grid tavern next door (later the Gridiron); Urban Pizza had a beer garden on game days; Robert Oldenburg applied for the licence in spring 2003 (placed on file); the corporation became Urban Pizza Cafe, LLC in June 2004, and a church took space in the building that November.
A 2003 review praised the buttery 'Urban original crust' deep dish (a 12-inch feeds three or four; $8.95 cheese to $13.49 specialty, thin crust from $6.89, slices $2.50 at lunch and dinner) and noted a summer menu with lower prices, fewer appetizers and no soups or pasta.
