Mayor Soglin declared July 5, 2013, "Gino's Restaurant Day" for the 50th anniversary. About 20 members of the Gargano family have worked there. Peppino's began in 1974 in Gino's former living quarters upstairs.
Gargano also owned two Gino's Delis in the Madison area in 2006. His uncle Carlo Caputo, a State Street grocer, brought the three Gargano brothers to Madison and opened Carlo's, a pizza place on the Capitol Square, in 1955.
