research note

Biagio Gargano sold Gargano's (437 State St.), 'gave up the family name' and restored the century-old Our Savior Lutheran Church as a restaurant with robed waiters; a full Italian menu with pizza, so a borderline item kept for the address chain — The Monastery, Inc. ran Pizzeria Bellini here from 1999.

Fall 1987 guide: 'Located in former church, Gothic medieval atmosphere. Intimate dining. Nightly specials. Fine Italian cuisine with veal dishes, pasta and full wine list. Newly remodeled.'
