Naples 15 is an Italian restaurant in downtown Madison known for its wood-fired Neapolitan pizza. The chef and owner, Salvatore Di Scala, opened it in July 2012[1].

History

Naples 15 opened in July 2012 at 15 N. Butler St., in Butler Plaza, the space where Cafe Porta Alba had begun in 2006[2]; before that it had been Sal's Pizzeria, and after Porta Alba the short-lived Old Market Bistro[3][4]. It was certified by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana, with a wood-fired oven labeled "Napoli" and San Marzano tomatoes; the Margherita DOC was $15.95. The first reviews praised the puffy crust and faulted the service[5][2].

Di Scala came to Madison in 1984 to train as a boxer. During the COVID-19 pandemic Naples 15 did carryout and limited dining, cooked meals for the Ronald McDonald House, and offered "pizza sospeso", a pizza paid for in advance for someone who needs one[1].

Pizza

  • The pizzas bake in a custom wood-fired oven at 1,000°F for 85 to 95 seconds[1].
  • They are named for songs: the "O Sole Mio" is a margherita, and "The Good Life" was Tony Bennett's favorite[1].
