Brother of Peppino and Gino Gargano, who also owned Italian restaurants in Madison.
Came to Madison in 1960; by 1962 had a pizzeria, Guiseppe's, near the corner of Randall and University avenues, which he soon moved to State Street as Gargano's.
Ran Gargano's on State Street 'for years', opened the Monastery at 401 E. Washington Ave. in 1980 and ran it until he fell seriously ill in 1994; recovered by Nov. 1996 and, 'sick and tired of retirement', planned Pizzeria Bellini for early 1998.
Born in Sicily; became a U.S. citizen in April 1965, when he lived at 2934 Milwaukee St. and ran a pizza shop at 435 State St.
